Carbon deposits build up on intake valves, ports, combustion chambers and injectors, and the symptoms are familiar: loss of power, hesitation, rough idle, pinking, misfires, knocking, poor starting and reduced MPG. Direct-injection engines are particularly prone to it, because no fuel washes over the back of the intake valves.

Walnut shell blasting
For engines where the build-up has gone beyond what a chemical clean can shift, we offer walnut shell blasting at our Tonbridge workshop. With the intake manifold removed, a high-pressure blast of finely crushed walnut shell strips the carbon from the intake ports and the back of the valves. The shell is softer than the metal, so it cleans without damaging anything — a safe, quick and highly effective way to restore performance and fuel economy.
