Wheel balancing makes sure the weight of the wheel and tyre is spread evenly around the axle. No wheel-and-tyre combination is perfectly balanced from new, and as a tyre wears the balance changes. Our team uses the latest balancing equipment at our Tonbridge workshop, which senses any uneven distribution of weight and lets the technician place small weights at exact points around the rim to offset it.
Signs your wheels are out of balance
If you notice either of these, don't hesitate to get in touch — an out-of-balance wheel wears the tyre, the wheel bearing and the suspension bushes far faster than it should.
- Vibration through the steering wheel, seat or floor, typically above 40mph
- Uneven or scalloped wear on the tyres
- A steering wheel that shimmies at certain speeds and settles at others
When to have it done
- With every new tyre — included as standard when we fit them
- After a puncture repair or if a balance weight has come off
- Whenever you feel a new vibration at speed
- Alongside a four-wheel alignment for a complete wheel set-up
